Original albumen prints mounted on card. Hand written captions on mounting boards. |
Click on the thumbnails above for enlarged images of the photographs.
The first six images displayed on this page are from a group of 12 albumen prints disbound from an album. It is assumed that all 12 prints were by the Adelaide landscape photographer Captain Samuel White Sweet. Unfortunately the other 6 photographs that completed the Album of Adelaide Views are not part of the MAPCO collection. However, you can view thumbnail images of the other
6 photographs here. Please note that these are a digital archive only, displayed simply as a record for posterity.
An additional Sweet albumen print entitled Semaphore Pier, Adelaide, South Australia was purchased separately from the 6 album images. This historically significant photograph of Semaphore jetty is the only known surviving print of this Sweet plate.
A further 3 albumen prints by Sweet (or attributed to him) will be displayed by the end of April 2008. |
Three of the MAPCO collection photographs on display carry Sweet's name on the print:
The Proclamation Tree page includes several other enlargeable images, including an enlarged view of the notice on the tree, and several modern views of the Old Gum Tree at Glenelg in 2007.
