Plan Of Westminster; From Norden's Survey, Taken In Queen Elizabeth's Reign, 1593.
Herein are comprehended all the buildings from Temple Bar to Mill-bank Street, when an uninterrupted view of Primrose Hill, Hampstead, Highgate, &c., might be had from the houses on the north side of the Strand. By the several water-courses which issue from Rosamond's Pond and elsewhere, and from the one at B, which runs through the present College Street, and under Mill-bridge to the Queen's Slaughter House, it appears probable that Thorney Island was more extensive than is supposed; but of this, more elsewhere. N.B. A Standing Gibbet is seen in this plan, in New Palace Yard.
